slice-of-thai.com Silliness Plants That Feel

This curious weed plant can be found all over Pai in the rainy season. It's got a unique feature to fend off potential diners:

Plants That Feel

Not only do the leaflets completely retract in a few seconds, but the entire stem bends down and a sharp barb that is normally hidden at the head of each stem pops up to let us know we're not welcome.

When the enemy is gone, the plant recovers in about 15-30 minutes and unfolds again.

It's great fun playing with this plant. It's like having a sheet of bubble wrap that you can pop and then the bubbles expand again and again!
